Overnight at the Zoo

Last weekend, Felix and I stayed overnight at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium with his Cub Scout pack.

Felix really loves animals and scouting and had a great time. He was always very eager to pet or hold any of the animals he could.

The pictures below depict one of the biggest highlights for him, which was when he got to hold a baby sea turtle. When it's fully grown, it will be even bigger than he is!

The highlight for ME came Sunday morning. Felix asked me if he would get to see the animals the handler was going to show the boys that morning, and I told him I wasn't sure because we were going to have to leave by 8:30 for Church.

Felix then proceeded, unaided, to approach the handler, tell her he had to leave early, and ask her if he could see the animals before we had to leave. She obliged by inviting Felix and just a couple other boys who were also leaving early to their own separate, early viewing. He got to see and pet an armadillo, a snake, a gecko, and a hedgehog. I was proud of his confidence and maturity.

Also shown below is the baby Alligator the handler showed us, and a picture from "behind the scenes" above the shark tank.

Wow...what a neat experience, and Felix, you are one brave dude to touch and hold all of those animals! :-O Next time you get to go and hold a hedgehog, will you ask the handler if you can take it home for your Aunt Amy?? I think a hedgehog pet would be cool! :)
