Daphne-Daddy Dessert Dates

I've often been fascinated by how something I'm doing with the kids will trigger a memory for them of a past experience we've had together. My fascination is usually matched with frustration, however, when they want me to recreate their memory in very specific detail, but I can only vaguely recollect the experience.

One such example happened recently when Daphne asked me if we could dip bananas in chocolate milk again.

This is something we had done only once before and yet she still remembered it vividly and corrected me every step of the way as we tried to repeat the experience.

By now it's become a mini tradition for the two of us with well established (by Daphne) rules and regulations surrounding the ritual. I've shared a few photos of our experience from today. This was our second of two of these experiences just today.

She still corrects me step-by-step if I do anything out of order such as cutting the
banana prematurely before she's done dipping the last slice, etc.

Some of her rules include:
1. We alternate turns.
2.Except whenever Daphne decides she should have two turns in a row.
3. We only use one toothpick.
4. Don't cut the banana again until the previous slice has been dipped and eaten.
5. Daphne always gets the last turn.

In Todd's same spirit of sharing, then, I thought I'd share this with all of you.

Also, as a gift to you our fellow family members, some basic instructions follow below.

What you'll need:
1 toothpick
1 butter knife
1 large can Nestlé Nesquik
Bananas

Peel a banana, cut it into slices, stab the toothpick through a banana slice with a toothpick, dip it in Nesquik.

2013 Lady Bulldogs

The Lady Bulldogs are undefeated with one game remaining. Macie has recently decided basketball isn't scary and even had her first basket of the season today. Riley has also done well and has been the leading scorer in each of our games this year.

Antique White

Today Daphne wore a dress I've had for years from Maggie's treasure collection.  I've waited so long to have a little girl who would fit into it, and now it has come to pass!  When she put it on she said, "It's a little bit yellow, Mommy." I told her it's true to life antique white :)

I can't remember who's dress this was?  I'm not even sure it's actually a dress...maybe it's a slip? petticoat?  Do you know the story of the dress, Maggie?

Kentucky Clan

Typically, it's not a good idea to refer to anything in the South as "the clan." Just some friendly advice.

Here are some pictures from the Johnson compound. There's never a dull moment, which I love. Here is a brief description of the photos.
- Todd and Macie checking out headstones in one of the cemeteries we visited while I was there. I do loves me some of them there cemeteries.
- Carver plotting to take over the world.
- Macie insisting on mooning me while I'm shooting.
- Macie holding still for 2 seconds in the cemetery for a little portrait.
- Macie is sitting by Valerie while icing the had she slammed in the back door, right around the same time as the "basketball incident." She has since made a full recovery.
- Chuckie holds an ice pack on her eye (seen in the other photo) after a receiving an injury during a basketball incident that I may or may not have been involved in. Talk to my lawyer.
- Riley doing some AMAZING singing/dancing. She's got skills....mad skills.- Todd using an elaborate form of timeout with Carver called "elf on a shelf." From this point forward, everytime Carver hears the words elf or shelf, he will get vertigo.
- The Weasel being The Weasel.

Merry Christmas Johnson clan.
